North City Blues
About
North City Blues presented by First Community Credit Union is a free, non-competitive, co-ed hockey program that was formed during the 2021/2022 NHL season. North City Blues provides a free after school program and the opportunity to learn how to skate and play ice hockey for students enrolled in KIPP schools. KIPP - the Knowledge Is Power Program - is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life.
Through this program, students have the chance to learn the game and develop leadership traits and essential life skills such as teamwork, commitment and perseverance.
Practices are led by Blues Youth Hockey coaching staff, along with special appearances from Blues Alumni Jamal Mayers. Once the kids complete the first eight-weeks of Learn to Skate, those interested in hockey will receive a free set of equipment and begin an eight-week Learn to Play hockey program. In 2022/2023, the North City Blues program saw over 50 players enroll in the program.
Registration for the 2024/2025 season is closed. Please check back next year.
